Nigerian Professional Football League club Enyimba have released a statement following the death of their former coach Maurice Cooreman.
The Belgian who was in charge of the People’s Elephants between 2006 and 2008 passed away in his home country on Tuesday, May 31 at the age of 79.
Daily Trust reports that Cooreman led the Aba based club to their 5th NPFL title in 2007 and then went on to manage a number of other Nigerian teams including Ikorodu United, Warri Wolves and Akwa United.
He also worked in Ghana as a manager of top club Asante Kotoko between 2008 and 2009.
Reacting to the death of the gaffer, Enyimba tweeted:
“We are saddened by news of the death of our former coach, Maurice Coreman.
“The Belgian led Enyimba to our 5th league crown in 2007 and will always be remembered for his firmness and passion for the game.
“Our deepest condolences go the family and friends that he has left behind.”
And fans have taken to the comment section to pay their condolences to the club as they will miss the tactician.
A fan wrote:
“Maurice Cooreman will also be remembered for the expansive play of the Enyimba team that reached the SF of the 2008 #CAFCL, with glut of goals to boot.
“The ‘Little N Large’ strike partnership of Stephen Worgu & Ezenwa Otorogu accounted for 18 of the 30goals in that campaign. RIP.”

Former Man City defender Mark Davies dies
Meanwhile, Sports Brief earlier reported that the football family in the United Kingdom is in mourning following the sad news of the passing of former Swansea City defender, Mark Davies.
The 49-year-old had previously played for Swansea City, appearing in a European Cup Winners' Cup match against Monaco in 1991.
Mark Davies was playing for Llanelli in their Wales Veterans Over-45s Cup final against Penybont in Cardiff on Sunday, May 15, when the sad incident occurred.
