The football family in the United Kingdom is in mourning following the sad news of the passing of former Swansea City defender, Mark Davies.

The 49-year-old had previously played for Swansea City, appearing in a European Cup Winners' Cup match against Monaco in 1991.

According to a report via the Daily Mirror, Mark Davies was playing for Llanelli in their Wales Veterans Over-45s Cup final against Penybont in Cardiff on Sunday, May 15, when the sad incident occurred.

Davies death came as a shock to the football community in the UK as his present club, Llanelli issued a statement condoling his family.

Mark Davies made his debut for Swansea City against Monaco in the European Cup Winners' Cup two months after signing his professional contract in 1991 and featured in the 8-0 second-leg loss against the French club.

Davies forced to retire early due to medical condition

The football community is still in shock following the death of former Swansea City defender, Mark Davies, who passed away playing a veteran’s football game.

According to the BBC, the Swansea City website revealed Mark Davies had to give up football due to a medical ailment before briefly returning with Llanelli.

Davies made a few appearances for the Swans, including one in the European Cup Winners' Cup in the early 1990s, before heading to non-league and subsequently veterans' football.

Earlier, Sports Brief reported relegated GladAfrica Championship side Jomo Cosmos announced last night that midfielder Sivuyile Zozi passed away.

The announcement was made on the club's official Twitter account, though the 25-year-old's cause of death was not revealed. The player, nicknamed Zozi, died on Wednesday morning.

Zozi had been part of the squad for Ezenkosi's 2-0 victory over Platinum City Rovers, playing for 75 minutes before being substituted for Thabang Rakwena.
