Former Manchester United goalkeeper and Rangers legend Andy Goram has been given just six months to live after he was diagnosed with terminal cancer.

It is understood that Goram previously thought his illness was a result of bad indigestion only to discover he had cancer.

According to the Daily Mail, the 58-year-old former goalkeeper had a scan at Monklands Hospital where he was informed he has stage four oesophageal cancer.

The publication adds that Goram was given an option of chemotherapy sessions to help alleviate the condition but turned down the option as it would allow him to live just 12 weeks more.

Andy Goram reveals he has terminal cancer

Speaking to the Daily Record, Goram gave a breakdown of his condition as he promised to 'fight like I've never fought before'.

"I had a CT scan at Monklands, then was rushed to Wishaw General and told my next of kin should be with me. That is when the alarm bells started ringing. I realised I had cancer," he divulged.
"The surgeon explained where all the cancer was and it was inoperable. I knew I was in for a fight. If I don't take the chemo, I have an average of six months," he continued.

The Rangers icon played 184 times for Scottish giants, winning five league titles and three Scottish Cups.

Sir Alex Ferguson, who was a huge fan of the keeper signed him for United on loan in 2000.
