DStv Premiership Report: Baroka FC Relegated as Moroka Swallows Forced Into Relegation Promotion Play Offs
- Baroka FC will have to adjust to life outside of the spotlight of the DStv Premiership after being relegated on the final day
- Needing a victory to have any hopes of escaping the axe, Bakgaga were defeated on their travels to KwaZulu-Natal
- Moroka Swallows will have to take part in the unpleasant promotion-relegation play-off tournament after drawing with Kaizer Chiefs
Baroka FC have been deservedly relegated from the DStv Premiership after a season of disappointment.
Needing nothing but a victory plus other results to go their way, Bakgaga ba Mphahlele failed to rise to the occasion against Maritzburg United in KwaZulu-Natal. Clayton Daniels' 55th minute goal was the difference between the sides in terrible weather conditions at the Harry Gwala Stadium as the People's Team walked away 1-0 winners.
Elsewhere, Kaizer Chiefs and Moroka Swallows played out a highly entertaining 2-2 draw at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg. Njabulo Ngcobo opened the scoring for the Amakhosi, before two quickfire penalties by Dillon Solomons in the 64th and 70th minute put the Dube Birds into a 2-1 lead. However, Bernard Parker had the final say with an 85th minute to ensure a sharing of the spoils.
This result means that Swallows, who finished 15th, will have to go through the trials and tribulations of the promotion-relegation play-offs mini-tournament against University of Pretoria Cape Town All Stars.
TS Galaxy, who were also in a spot of bother in the relegation battle, allayed any fears of going down after defeating Chippa United thanks to a 91st minute winner by captain Given Msimango for a 1-0 victory.
