Ghana took a giant step in seeking World Cup qualification with their first-leg victory over Morocco at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday afternoon.
The Black Maidens, Ghana's female under 17 national team, defeated their Moroccan counterparts 2-0 to put themselves in pole position in qualifying for the FIFA U17 Women's World Cup.
A goal on either side of halftime was enough to secure coach Baba Nuhu's charges a two-nil lead in the final hurdle of the qualifiers.
The Black Maidens began the game on the front foot and coach Nuhu's charges broke the deadlock through Stella Nyamekye after 18 minutes.
Ghana's incessant attacks were repelled by their Moroccan counterparts to keep the scoreline at 1-0 at halftime.
The Maidens continued from where they left off in the first half with their constant barrage of attacks but were thwarted by a resolute Moroccan defence in conjunction with their goalkeeper.
But Ghana breached the defence of their North African opponents for the second time in the game when Nancy Amoh scored a stunning free-kick five minutes after the hour mark.
Ghana continued to bombard Morocco with unending attacks but could not yield any further goals as the first-leg ended in favour of the West African nation.
