  • Orlando Pirates claimed a crucial 2-0 victory away to Al Ahly Tripoli in the first leg of the teams' CAF Confederations Cup semifinals
  • Goals from Innocent Maela and Goodman Mosele ensured a convincing victory for the visitors as they thoroughly outplayed the hosts
  • The Buccaneers will have the opportunity to settle the tie next week Sunday at the Orlando Stadium in Soweto

Orlando Pirates was too good for Al Ahly Tripoli in the first leg of the CAF Confederations Cup at the Martyrs of February Stadium in Tripoli.

The Buccaneers thoroughly outplayed Tripoli in a 2-0 victory. An eighth-minute goal from Innocent Maela and another from Goodman Mosele set the visitors on their way to what was a thoroughly convincing defeat of the visitors.

What did not hurt was that Ahly Tripoli fans were not allowed into the venue for hitherto unknown reasons, which Pirates took advantage of. There was also a matter of floodlight failure in the dying stages of the match, though there was nothing sinister about this turn of events.

The return leg will take place next week Sunday at the Orlando Stadium at 6pm. There definitely won't be a problem with a fan lockout as there currently is a 50% capacity limit.

Should Pirates keep their nerve, they will qualify for the club's second Confederations Cup final, the last one being in 2015.

Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns played out an entertaining 1-1 draw in the DStv Premiership encounter at Soccer City in Johannesburg on Sunday evening.

As reported by Sports Brief, man-of-the-match Aubrey Modiba opened the scoring for the visitors in the 49th minute. Phathutshedzo Nange equalised for the hosts in the 76th minute in what was a frantic match of football.

The Amakhosi had the opportunity to win the game as it approached a climactic conclusion, but Keagan Dolly's 84th-minute penalty was saved excellently by Reyaad Pieterse.
