Jody Lukoki died on May 9, 2022 at the age of 29.
In an emotional farewell, son of the DR Congo star led the tribute as he walked onto the pitch with the players and fans and friends broke down in tears.
Lukoki was recovering from an injury that kept him out for months before his heartbreaking demise.
The winger started his career from the youth team of Ajax before going on to winning several titles with the Dutch giants.
He later moved to Bulgaria, where he played for Ludogorets but returned to Holland to sign for FC Twente in 2021.
Lukoki represented the Netherlands at youth levels before later deciding to represent the country of his parents DR Congo.

The 29-year-old, who was making progress from a cruciate ligament injury, died on Monday, May 9, 2022.

As reported by Sport24, local police confirmed that a 16-year-old suspect was arrested in connection with the incident. Sheriff Ed Gonzalez of Harris County said that the suspect did not pull over after being requested to by police, instead speeding off with the cops in pursuit.
