Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye kept a clean sheet helping Sparta Rotterdam to a 2-0 victory over fellow strugglers PEC Zwolle who have now been relegated from the Eredivisie.

Okoye and teammates went into wild celebrations at full-time as Sparta Rotterdam could avoid relegation with victory on the last matchday.

Pulse Sports reports that Okoye made the headlines for his performance in the encounter and was the star of the celebrations at the end of the game.

Adil Auassar opened the scoring as early as the third minute to put Rotterdam ahead by carefully walking in on a free kick by Vito van Crooy.

The visitors almost restored parity, but Thomas van de Belt saw his effort rattle the crossbar and then Van Crooy was at the receiving end of a brilliant attack by the home team and turned scorer having assisted his side's first to make it 2-0.

PEC Zwolle failed to get the much-desired results and will now play in the Keuken Kampioen Divisie next season.

Zwolle who got promoted to the Eredivisie in 2012, managed to keep itself away from relegation until they failed, this year.

The highest-ranking in their 10-year stay in the league was a sixth-place finish in the 2014/2015 season.

Okoye invited for Nigeria’s friendlies vs Mexico and Ecuador

Meanwhile, the Super Eagles of Nigeria are billed to take on Mexico and Ecuador in friendly matches and Okoye has been invited for the matches.

Nigerian Football Federation released the names of the 30 players picked for the friendlies as the first assistant coach of the Super Eagles Salisu Yusuf is expected to lead the team to the United States; the venue of the matches.

Captain Ahmed Musa was named in the squad; and on the list of the invited players for these two coming games are Akwa United goalkeeper Adewale Adeyinka and Enyimba stopper Ojo Olorunleke.

Manchester United initiate contact with Osimhen

Sports Brief earlier reported that English Premier League giants Manchester United are said to have made a contact with Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen as the Red Devils continue their search for another striker.

The Red Devils are unsure of Cristiano Ronaldo’s future at the club and are now making efforts to the potential signing of the Napoli of Italy striker.

Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport claim that the Old Trafford club have established contact and are trying to find out what it will cost to land the striker.
