  • Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi had to settle for a share of the spoils after a 1-1 draw in a DStv Premiership at Soccer City in Johannesburg
  • Aubrey Modiba opened the scoring for the Brazilians, before Phathutshedzo Nange equalised for the hosts, who also missed a penalty late in the piece
  • The Amakhosi welcomed the league champion Brazilians with a guard of honour, settling that debate once and for all

Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns played out an entertaining 1-1 draw in the DStv Premiership encounter at Soccer City in Johannesburg on Sunday evening.

Man-of-the-match Aubrey Modiba opened the scoring for the visitors in the 49th minute. Phathutshedzo Nange equalised for the hosts in the 76th minute in what was a frantic match of football.

The Amakhosi had the opportunity to win the game as it approached a climactic conclusion, but Keagan Dolly's 84th-minute penalty was saved excellently by Reyaad Pieterse.

It was on everybody's lips about whether it was going to happen or not, but the Amakhosi welcomed the league champions on the field with a guard of honour.

The draw did not help Chiefs' runners-up hopes, as they remained in fourth place on 43 points. Their next assignment will be against Sekhukhune United next Saturday at 3pm.

Sundowns' points tally moved up to 62 points as the club bides its time preparing for the Nedbank Cup final against Marumo Gallants at the end of the month, where a treble will be on the line. The next match on the menu will be against Stellenbosch FC, also on Saturday.

More draws in the DStv Premiership as goal drought continues (highlights)

The lack of killer instinct in the DStv Premiership continued as the draws were the order of the day.

As reported on Sports Brief, Amazulu and Sekhukhune United drew 0-0 in Durban. The goalless draw was a record-extending 41st of the season in what might prove to be the lowest-scoring of the Premier Soccer League era.

Marumo Gallants drew 0-0 with Golden Arrows in Polokwane. The goalless draw increased the record of blank matches to 42 this season.
