Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes has reacted to chants of ‘You’re not fit to wear the shirt’ echoed around the American Express Community Stadium during their 4-0 loss to Brighton, SPORTbible reports.
The Red Devils were outplayed and outclassed on Saturday afternoon leaving the fans upset as they continued to chant against their players.
The loss means United will not play in next season’s Champions League underlining a troubled season for the Premier League giants.
It has now reached a boiling point for the club’s fan base as 'You're not fit to wear the shirt' echoed from the AMEX Stadium away end as Leandro Trossard made it four.
After the game, Fernandes was asked about his impression of the fans. He told Sky Sports:
"I include myself on that. What we did today, what I did today, was not enough to be in the Manchester United shirt and I accept that."
Fernandes signed a new contract in April to take him up to £250,000-per-week and one of United's highest earners.
The 27-year-old has had a poor season by his own high standards, but is holding himself accountable in a tricky period.
