  • Arsenal have rekindled their interest in Lautaro Martinez, who they attempted to sign last summer, but a deal fell through due to a lack of European football
  • They will face competition for the Argentine striker from Manchester United. Inter Milan have placed a 70 million euros price on his head
  • The Gunners are also looking at other options like Manchester City’s Gabriel Jesus and AS Roma’s Tammy Abraham

Arsenal have reignited their interest in Inter Milan’s striker Lautaro Martinez. The Gunners attempted to sign him last summer, but the lack of Champions League football proved to be a stumbling block in the negotiations.

And with Arsenal now finely poised to return to the top level of European football next season, Martinez might be willing to renegotiate his stand. Arsenal are in fourth place with 63 points with four games to go.

Mikel Arteta is keen on getting a new striker. He is faced with the prospect of remaining without a recognized striker at the end of the season. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang terminated his contract and joined Barcelona, while Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah are nearing the end of their contracts.

They will, however, face strong competition from Manchester United, who have also set their sights on the Argentine striker. The Mirror reports that Inter Milan will be willing to listen to offers in the region of 70 million euros.

Martinez has operated as a second striker during his time at Inter Milan. Antonio Conte paired him with Romelu Lukaku upfront in their march to the Scudetto last season. Under Simone Inzaghi, he has been used with Edin Dzeko. It remains to be seen whether he can operate as the sole target man.

The 24-year-old has 54 league matches in 132 appearances since joining the Italian giants. In the current campaign, he has managed to score 17 goals and provide a further three in Inter Milan's pursuit to defend the Serie A.

The diminutive forward was signed from Racing Club in 2018 and has gone ahead to establish himself as one of the exciting strikers in world football.

Barcelona were previously interested in bringing him to Camp Nou, but their then manager, Ronald Koeman, preferred Memphis Depay.

Arsenal looking at Gabriel Jesus

Sports Brief had earlier reported that Arsenal are also looking at other striking options with Gabriel Jesus on top of Arteta’s list. Manchester City are set to activate Erling Haaland’s release clause from Borussia Dortmund and that might mean reduced minutes for Jesus.

The North London side have also been linked with AS Roma’s Tammy Abraham. It will, however, be difficult to bring back the England international back to England after only one season in Italy.

Arsenal are hoping to make a comeback to the Champions League for the first time in over five years and Arteta wants to bolster his ranks effectively.
