With one eye on the Champions League return leg against Manchester City, Carlo Ancelotti made several changes to the Real Madrid team with in-form Karim Benzema and Vinicius Junior rested.

How it happened

Rodrygo starting alongside Mariano Diaz and Marco Asensio in attack for Real Madrid calmed the nerves of the fans after he scored the opener for the Galacticos in the 33rd minute.

The 21-year-old got his brace after a coolly converting a brilliant chance following a defensive error from the Espanyol defense to give Madrid a comfortable half-time lead.

Real Madrid continued from where they left off as Marco Asencio scored in the 55th minute to secure a comfortable 3-0 win for Carlo Ancelotti’s men.

Benzema will add icing to the cake after coming on as a second-half substitute to make it 4-0 for the Galacticos are crowned champions for the first time since 2019.

The Galacticos have dominated La Liga in 2021-22 having lost just 3 games in the entire season and have gathered a total of 81 points.

Real Madrid on the brink of winning another La Liga title

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Real Madrid are just a single point away from clinching their 35th La Liga title.

Los Blancos host Espanyol today, looking to achieve the feat, but Espanyol hopes to spoil the party.

In the reverse fixture, Espanyol beat Madrid 2-1 at home in October and will be looking to do the same again today. In the 28 games that the two sides have contested, Madrid has won 23 matches while Espanyol has only won two.
