Mamelodi Sundowns co-coach rubbished talk of the DStv Premiership having become a farmers league.

The Brazilians won their record-extending fifth consecutive title last night after a 0-0 draw with Cape Town City at Loftus Versfeld. This was also the club's 12th league title in the Premier Soccer League era since it began in 1996, eight ahead of both Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates, which are both on four.

Mokwena said that the chasing pack needed to harden up and intensify its fight for the the league to not seem this easy, saying, according to KickOff:

"To not have that type of situation [a farmers league] you need strong rivals. Maybe the reality is that if you look at the stories such as Bayern for example and how they win their titles. The same with PSG, then they go into that sort of Champions League level and then maybe the stimulation is not there.
"Of course, I think every time Bayern have done well [in the Champions League] is when they have had very strong rivals in the domestic league. That responsibility to make sure that there are stronger rivals in the league, unfortunately, is not our responsibility.
"We have the potential to have strong rivals with regards to some of the teams and it's a difficult responsibility and I'm glad it's not my responsibility."

Mamelodi Sundowns wrap up fifth consecutive league title, secure much needed point against Cape Town City

Mamelodi Sundowns are the 2021/22 DStv Premiership Champions.

As reported by Sports Brief, Masandawna achieved the feat by playing out to a goalless draw at home with Cape Town City.

Cape Town City travelled to Loftus Versveld looking to play spoiler and put Mamelodi Sundowns’ title celebrations on hold.
