Lyle Lakay gave Mamelodi Sundowns the perfect start when he scored in the first five minutes. The South African defender produced one of his trademark freekicks, which deflected the wall to find its way into the back of the net.

Petro de Luanda equalised ten minutes later when Tiago Azulāo finished smartly from close range. The rest of the first half resembled a pinball game as both sides had numerous chances to take the lead.

The end to end action should have produced more goals, though. Themba Zwane had Sundowns' best chance after he rounded the keeper but hit the post despite ample space to aim at.

Petro de Luanda would punish them for that when they scored in the 45th minute. Yano smashed the ball into the roof of the net after Denis Onyango made a save but couldn’t push the ball out of danger.

Sundowns started the second half much more robust and dominated the second 45. Peter Shalulile had their best chance early on, but Wellington saved his header well.

Sundowns continued to pepper the opposition’s goal, eager to get an equaliser and a second away goal.

Petro de Luanda felt hard done by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) and the linesman as it denied them two possible goals. VAR first denied the Angolan side a penalty for a handball in the box before Azulāo scored but was offside.

It was then Sundowns' turn to be denied by VAR. The Brazilians equalised in the last minute of the game when Neo Maema produced a brilliant finish from outside the box, but the goal was chalked off. However, VAR found that there was a foul in the build-up to the goal and the referee disallowed it.

'A cut above the rest': Peter Shalulile has scored more goals this season than 7 DStv Premiership teams

Peter Shalulile is on another level this season. The Namibian marksman has notched up 21 goals in the Premier Soccer League, following his hattrick against Golden Arrows for Mamelodi Sundowns.

Peter Shalulile made local footballing history during the game, becoming the first player in the Premier Soccer League to have scored back to back hattricks, TimesLIVE reported.

By scoring six goals in just two games, Shalulile has now scored more goals this season than seven DStv Premiership sides and is level with AmaZulu, Sports Brief reported.
