Morocco Ready to Battle Nigeria for the Signature of Former PSG Coach

• Participants in the World Cup Morocco has joined Nigeria in the hunt to sign Laurent Blanc, the former manager of PSG, France, and Bordeaux

The Royal Moroccan Football Federation has identified former Paris Saint-Germain manager, Laurent Blanc to fill the vacant managerial role for the Atlas Lions.

Morocco are ready to slug it out with the Nigeria Football Federation for the signature of the 1998 World Cup winner with France.

The NFF listed Blanc, alongside Phillip Cocu, and Victor Valverde as the top three candidates they are considering taking over the vacant Super Eagles managerial role.

According to a report via Soccernet, the Moroccan FA wants to replace present coach, Vahid Halilhodzic before the 2022 World Cup after the former PSG forward fell out with Chelsea winger Hakim Ziyech.

Blanc is reportedly a strong contender for the Moroccan job as the former Manchester United defender is highly favoured by the Moroccan FA.

Gernot Rohr turns down Morroco job

Meanwhile, it has been revealed that former coach of the Super Eagles, Gernot had turned down a chance to take charge of the Atlas Lions of Morocco.

According to Blueprint, Rohr was contacted by the Moroccan FA after Herve Renard resigned his appointment with FRMF following the Atlas Lions’ shocking ousting by the Squirrels of Benin in the second round of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.

The Franco-German however turned down the job as he was still tied down to the Super Eagles at the time of the approach by the North Africans.

Nigeria Football Federation appoints new coaches for youth teams

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Salisu Yusuf has been appointed to lead the Super Eagles B-team for a second time after his appointment was ratified by the Nigeria Football Federation.

The NFF announced a massive shake-up in the national teams across all age grade categories as the football body planned to rebuild all teams for success following a disappointing 2022 that saw the Super Eagles fail to qualify for the World Cup.

The technical committee of the NFF had earlier recommended Salisu Yusuf for the position of head coach of the U-23 national team as well as the CHAN team.
