A brilliant first-half freekick from Asante Kotoko defender Imoro Ibrahim gave his side a 1-0 victory over King Faisal in Kumasi.

The left-full back hammered home a beauty from distance early in the game to stun their local rivals on Sunday.

The Porcupine Warriors were eager to avoid another loss at the hands of Alhaji Grunsah's side following back-to-back defeats earlier in the season.

The league leaders lost to King Faisal in the first round of the season before suffering another defeat to the same team in the MTN FA Cup a few weeks later.

Coach Prosper Ogum's men started the game on the brighter note and they took they took the lead in the 3rd minute after Ibrahim Imoro's brilliantly curled a freekick stunned King Faisal goalkeeper Richard Boateng.

Georges Mfegue brilliant header was denied goalkeeper Frank Boateng before Imoro Ibrahim struck the woodwork with his trademark freekick again.

King Faisal responded in the second half as Ortis Sam angled shot was blocked from close range by Danlad Ibrahim a sweeping counter-attack.

King Faisal fans thought their side had won a penalty after Zubairu Ibrahim was dragged in the box but referee Richmond Antwi was not convinced.

Asante Kotoko maintain the top of the table and extends their lead to 10 points after Aduana Stars and Bechem United dropped points.

The Kumasi-based club welcome arch-rivals Hearts of Oak at the Baba Yara Stadium next weekend, while King Faisal will travel to face Elima Sharks.

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Ex-Asante Kotoko forward Kwame Poku channeled his inner Cristiano Ronaldo to score a mouthwatering acrobatic goal for USM Algers last Saturday.
