Former Super Eagles star Daniel Amokachi has singled out Victor Osimhen as the only player who worked tirelessly against Ghana to ensure Nigeria qualified for the 2022 World Cup.
Amokachi disclosed this while speaking on SuperSport Naija Made show and cited in Daily Post.
According to him, Osimhen knows what it means to represent Nigeria at the World Cup, something some players born abroad in the current Super Eagles team don't understand.
What Amokachi said about Osimhen
Amokachi noted that Osimhen knows what it takes to play for Nigeria because he once hawked pure water on Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos.
“Football in Nigeria and Africa is a religion. If we don’t have a player like Osimhen, who hawked pure water on Third Mainland Bridge, you can see that’s the way he plays, he knows what it takes to play for Nigeria. That’s why he’s running 24/7 to make us win.
“And then you have players who grew up outside the shores of Nigeria that don’t know what it takes to wear the national colours in the World Cup, it is different.
“Several of the players have not been to the World Cup, they don’t know what it is. 99 per cent of those players haven’t even felt the Nigerian stadium filled up like the way it was filled up,” Amokachi said.
Osimhen had a good run in the World Cup qualifiers
Osimhen finished as Nigeria’s top scorer in the 2022 World Cup qualifier with four goals in eight appearances.
He was impressive during Nigeria’s 2022 FIFA World Cup double-leg playoff against Ghana in March but was unable to help Nigeria qualify for the World Cup in Qatar.
