  • Keylor Navas was left fuming as Real Madrid knocked Paris Saint-Germain out of the UEFA Champions League
  • His teammate and rival Gianluigi Donnarumma was in goal during the encounter and made a howler that cost his side
  • Navas, who has made 21 appearances so far this season, was said to have been furious with manager Mauricio Pochettino

Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Keylor Navas has expressed frustrations that he could not start in their Champions League loss to Real Madrid.

The Ligue 1 giants were knocked out of the competition following a calamitous display that saw them blow away their 1-0 lead in the second leg, as they lost 3-1.

Real Madrid sailed through to the quarter-final of the competition with a 3-2 aggregate win, and Navas has vented his anger after being left out of the game.

The Costa Rican and his rival Gianluigi Donnarumma have been rotating the goalkeeping duties for the Ligue 1 outfit for some time now.

It is believed that Poch preferred Navas in goal, having made 21 appearances in all competitions this season, while Donnarumma has appeared in 18 games overall.

But it was Donnarumma that was in goal vs Real Madrid and according to the Daily Mail, Navas' mood was likely not improved by the fact that it was the Italian goalkeeper's howler that led to the first Karim Benzema goal and kicked off PSG's unravelling.

French outlet L’Equipe reports that Navas was angered following their exit from the elite competition and made his intentions clear to the manager.

PSG bosses confront referee

Meanwhile, PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi and the club's sporting director Leonardo launched an angry tirade in the referee's dressing room after PSG's defeat by Real Madrid in the Champions League on Wednesday.

Sources have confirmed Al-Khelaifi and Leonardo marched downstairs from their box after the final whistle and that Leonardo was banging on the door of the referee's dressing room.

Their complaint is believed to have been around Benzema's first goal, when PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma was not awarded a free-kick, despite being pressured by the Real Madrid striker.

Benzema sends message to Mbappe

Sports Brief earlier reported that Real Madrid hat-trick hero Karim Benzema has stated that age is on the side of Kylian Mbappe following Paris Saint-Germain’s exit from the Champions League.

The Frenchmen scored all five goals across the two legs, but it was the Los Blancos striker who shone brightest grabbing a second-half hat-trick in the second leg to take his side through to the quarter-final.

Mbappe and his teammates were left licking their wounds and the youngster’s future remains unclear as his contract expires at the end of the season.
