- Benzema has consoled Mbappe for his performance and stated that age is still on the side of his compatriot
Real Madrid hat-trick hero Karim Benzema has stated that age is on the side of Kylian Mbappe following Paris Saint-Germain’s exit from the Champions League, Mirror reports.
The Frenchmen scored all five goals across the two legs, but it was the Los Blancos striker who shone brightest grabbing a second-half hat-trick in the second leg to take his side through to the quarter-final.
Mbappe and his teammates were left licking their wounds and the youngster’s future remains unclear as his contract expires at the end of the season.
The 23-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid, but he had hoped to win the Champions League with PSG.
Mbappe was the star man for the Ligue 1 side as he scored the winner back home in the first leg before putting his side ahead again at the Santiago Bernabeu.
But a second-half hat-trick by Karim Benzema knocked PSG out of the tournament. After the game, Benzema told RMC Sport via Sport Skeeda:
"Kylian was disappointed after the game, it's normal - he wanted to shine as always. But he's young, he has enough time to do it..."
The closest Mbappe has come in his short career was a final defeat back in 2020 and he was the subject of a mammoth bid from Madrid in the summer.
