Former Real Madrid and Brazil legend Roberto Carlos recently delighted fans after turning up to feature in a Sunday League game.

Roberto Carlos is regarded as one of the best left-backs of his generation and during his professional playing career, represented the likes of Inter Milan and Real Madrid.

He also featured a total of 125 times for Brazil, winning the World Cup in 2002.

Years after retiring, Roberto Carlos made his debut in England, albeit via the Sunday League.

The club in question, Barne United, could not believe their luck as they won a raffle that was set up on eBay with the lucky winner getting either Eni Aluko or Carlos to play one match for their side.

The match took place at the Hanwood Village Hall and Recreation Centre on the outskirts of Shrewsbury early to see Carlos.

Roberto Carlos benched

Despite being the most renowned name on the pitch, 48-year old Roberto Carlos somehow started the game on the bench, as Daily Mail reports he was still mildly nursing an injury.

He was eventually brought to feature against the opponents of the day Harlescott Rangers FC and he wore his iconic number 3 shirt.

There was a slight moment of disappointment as the Brazilian's team got a free kick at a promising area but Roberto Carlos failed to take it.

Fans were surely hoping for a replica of one of the most spectacular free-kicks in history which he scored in 1997 for Brazil against France.

He only managed to play nine minutes in the game that was played on March 3, and touched the ball four times.

Barne United were however given a penalty, which Roberto Carlos coolly stepped up to take it.

He however could not save his side from a 4-3 defeat on the day.

Sports Brief has since learnt that the proceeds from the raffle will go to a charity that helps disadvantaged young people in the community dubbed Football Beyond Borders.
