It was a cagey start to the game as neither team wanted to make mistakes and give away possession, but they did.

Leicester grew into the game sooner and within the first ten minutes, The Foxes already had four shots from range. Youri Tielemans, Wilfred Ndidi, Ricardo Pereira and Çağlar Söyüncü all took long-range efforts, but it was only Pereira who troubled Nick Pope in the Burnley goal.

Burnley showed their fight spirit as they soaked up Leicester's pressure but had their moments of madness. Tarkovksi almost gifted The Foxes a goal when he made a blunder in the box, allowing Patson Daka to pounce. Nick Pope once again came to the Burnley rescue as he produced another good save. In the 19th minute, Maxwel Cornet opened the scoring for Burnley but was flagged offside.

Burnley started to come on strong in the latter part of the first half. Nick Pope once again saved Burnley from going behind in the 40th minute when he pulled off a brilliant reflex save to deny Harvey Barnes.

Leicester stepped up the pressure with the half coming to an end but Burnley were dogged in defence as they threw their bodies in front of every shot. At the end of the first half, Burnley had no shots on target from three attempts while Leicester City had three shots on target from 11 attempts.

The second half followed a similar trend as the first, with both teams having decent chances. Burnley’s stellar defence was evident again in the second half, as Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall had a free-kick which was twice blocked by the defence.

With time ticking down, Brendan Rodgers threw on James Maddison and Jamie Vardy in the 72nd minute and the super subs made an impact not long after coming on. The duo combined for Leicester’s first goals as Vardy set up Maddison just ten minutes later. The player picked out the bottom corner from outside the box, leaving Nick Pope with no chance.

Less than ten minutes later Vardy doubled the advantage as he headed home from close range. The Foxes held on for an impressive win, their first win of 2022. The win takes them nine points clear of the bottom three.

Burnley vs Leicester City: Relegation battle heats up as The Clarets host The Foxes in the English Premier League

Burnley will host Leicester City at Turf Moor in the English Premier League later this evening, with both teams looking to avoid the dreaded relegation zone by picking up a win, Sports Brief earlier reported.

The Clarets currently find themselves in the bottom three, but a win over The Foxes will see them leapfrog Brentford into 15th place. Leicester meanwhile are six points clear of the bottom three teams.

Jamie Vardy scored three times during the last meeting between the two sides, as they drew 2-2. Vardy opened the scoring for Burnley but redeemed himself by netting twice for The Foxes. Maxwel Cornet scored Burnley’s goal as the two teams could not be separated.
