Going into the game, Banyana had a 2 goal advantage thanks to their win over Algeria in South Africa but knew they faced stern opposition in the return leg at the Stade Omar Hamadi in Algeria.

Their resolve was tested during the second leg clash as Algeria started to pile on the pressure. The hosts then scored at the half-hour mark but the goal was disallowed, Soccer Laduma confirmed.

Just before halftime, Algeria did take the lead thanks to Sylia Koui. With match aggregate now 2-1, the pressure was even more on Banyana. The South Africans dug deep and kept their composure, and their resolve paid off as they were awarded a penalty in the second half. The spot kick was given for a handball in the box.

Linda Motlhalo stepped up and converted the penalty to restore Banyana’s two-goal lead. Banyana once again dug deep in the closing stages of the game to claim victory and qualify for AWCON.

The team also took to their Twitter account to celebrate their win, as they gear up for Morocco.

Banyana Banyana look to succeed where Bafana Bafana failed by qualifying for 2022 AWCON in Morocco

The South African women's national football team, Banyana Banyana, has its sights set on the African Women Cup of Nations and FIFA Women's World Cup qualification, Sports Brief recently reported.

Banyana Banyana will take on Algeria in Algiers in the second leg of their 2022 Women's AFCON qualifier, holding a crucial 2-0 lead. The match will take place on Wednesday, with the winner qualifying for the tournament to be hosted by Morocco in July.

South Africans had to stew in the disappointment of having to watch the recent 2021 African Cup of Nations in Cameroon without Bafana Bafana to represent them. Banyana, on the other hand, have more than proven themselves as tournament qualifiers throughout their history.
