Acra Hearts of Oak have pipped their arch-rivals, Kumasi Asante Kotoko, 1-0 in their Ghana Premier League encounter.

The game which came off at the Accra Sports Stadium was decided by a superb effort by Daniel Afriyie Barnieh.

Afriyie Barnie turned home a wayward short from his colleague by doing a half-turn to unleash a shot that flew over Kotoko keeper Kwame Baah.

A short video clip has popped up showing Afriyie's goal which has put Hearts of Oak in a pole position to win the league.

Afriyieh Barnieh's goal may well have won the league who now sit on top with 59 points after 31 games, three points clear of Kotoko.

Apart from having a three-point advantage, Hearts of Oak is also superior in head-to-head and with only three matches remaining, they will not squander their lead.

11-year title drought

If Hearts of Oak eventually wins the league title, they will be breaking an 11-year-old jinx of not winning the Ghana Premier League. The last time they won was in the 2008/2009 season.

Within these years that Hearts has not won the league, Kotoko has won three times.

Game generates hype with celeb support

Sunday's encounter between Hearts and Kotoko was one of the most hyped Ghana Premier League games in recent times.

Days before the match, there was a lot of conversation with many people taking to social media to show support for one of the teams.

The conversation was propelled by celebrities and other prominent personalities who also threw their support for the teams.

For Kotoko, the likes of Serwaaa Amihere, Sammy Awuku, Dentaa Amoateng, and Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, were part of a list of celebrity supporters compiled.

On Hearts' list were names like John Dumelo, Stonebwoy, Afia Schwarzengger, And A-Plus.
