Manchester City are reportedly interested in signing Barcelona’s wonder kid Nico Gonzalez and are prepared to battle five other major European clubs for the teenage midfielder.
According to a via 90 Min, City is said to have joined four unnamed sides which includes two others from England, one from Italy, and one from Germany in registering their interest in Nico.
The 20-year-old has been a key member of the Barcelona team this season and recently signed a new contract with the Blaugrana until 2024.
Gonzalez is believed to be one of the lowest earners at the Camp Nou despite his new contract and Barcelona is understood not to be desperate to offer an improved new deal to the 20-year-old.
Manchester City will have to negotiate a transfer fee with Barcelona if they so desperately want Nico Gonzalez as Barcelona has set a release clause of €500m on the midfielder.
Araujo’s new contract a priority for Barcelona
Meanwhile, Barcelona hopes to convince center-back, Ronald Araujo, to sign a new contract with the Catalan side with several top clubs registering their interest in the defender.
According to Goal, the Uruguayan’s current deal is set to expire in 18-months but Barca has made keeping the defender a priority for the club.
Chelsea and Manchester City are some of the top clubs who are monitoring the contract situation of the 22-year-old defender after talks over a new deal were put on hold by Barcelona and his team.
