Brazilian midfielder Bruno Fernandes has revealed why he snubbed Arsenal to join Newcastle United during the January transfer window.

Guimares was a transfer target for the Gunners during the winter window but opted to join the Magpies who are battling relegation.

When asked why he decided to join Newcastle at the expense of Arsenal, the 24-year-old divulged he felt his new club are as big as Arsenal and with bigger ambitions.

The former Lyon star described Newcastle as "a historic club" with "a beautiful history" as he revealed his desire to help make them a force to reckon with.

Guimares further divulged he was convinced to move to St. James Park as he believes in the club's project which includes winning the Champions League.

Guimares on joining Newcastle

"I have no doubts about my decision to come to Newcastle. They’ve won league titles but we want more — we want to win the Champions League," the Brazilian declared.
"The objective is to be in the Champions League and to eventually win the Champions League," he added.

When can Guimares make his Newcastle debut?

The new Magpies signing is billed to make his debut for Newcastle against Everton.

The Eddie Howe-tutored side are scheduled to host Frank Lampard's Everton at St, James Park on Wednesday night, February 8.

Newcastle currently sit 19th on the log with 15 points, just one point off safety.

Two Man United stars to miss Burnley clash

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Ralf Rangnick will be without the pair of Fred and Alex Telles when Man United square off with relegation-threatened Burnley.

The two Brazilians are understood to be self-isolating after they tested positive for Covid-19 in the run-up to the fixture.

United head into the clash with the hope of securing a favourable result to boost their chances of qualifying for the Champions League.
