The Tunisia national football team was not pleased with their first Group F AFCON match against Mali. The squad better known as the Eagles of Carthage is gearing up for their next game against Nigeria in the AFCON knock out stage.

The Tunisian football club was founded in 1957, following the country's independence in 1956. The football club had its first FIFA entry in 1960. The team's rich history, which spans 65 years as of 2022, depicts the highs and lows of the club, the Olympics, the international league wins and local defeats over the decades.

The Tunisia national football team's nickname

The Tunisian soccer club is popularly known as les Aigles de Carthage, the Eagles of Carthage or the Carthage Eagles. The film, the Eagles of Carthage is based on the team's historical AFCON win in 2004.

The football club has appeared for 3 AFCON group games played against Mauritania, Gambia, and Mali. The first game ended in drama and disappointment with the Tunisian squad preferring not to return to the field after the 89th minute.

The Carthage Eagles returned with more enthusiasm to the field scoring 4 - 0 against the Mauritanian team. However, the team was defeated in the last Group F match against Gambia. Nevertheless, they progressed to the Group 16 stage, with their first match set against Nigeria on the 23rd of January 2022.
