Man United youngster Mason Greenwood has finally been released after spending close to three days in custody.
Greenwood was apprehended on Sunday, January 31, on suspicion of assault and abuse, with a woman believed to be his girlfriend alleging incidents of violence.
Great Manchester Police were granted more time on Monday, January 31, to further probe the incident.
However, the Englishman has secured his freedom albeit temporarily, with Sky Sports reporting he was released on bail pending further investigation.
"A 20-year-old man arrested (on Sunday 30 January 2022) on suspicion of the rape and assault of a woman has been released on bail pending further investigation," a police statement confirming Greenwood's release said.
Man United suspends Greenwood
Despite the forward's release from custody, he remains suspended from engaging in club activities.
In a statement released by the Red Devils, the Manchester-based club reiterated their academy graduate will not be resuming training with them.
"Manchester United reiterates its strong condemnation of violence of any kind," the statement said.
"As previously communicated, Mason Greenwood will not train with, or play for the club until further notice," the club added.
Ex-Man United star declines to join Spurs
Earlier, Sports Brief reported former Man United midfielder Ander Herrera reportedly had an offer to join Tottenham during the January transfer window but declined.
Spurs, who were desperate to bolster their squad before the window shut are said to have shown interest in the Paris Saint-Germain star.
However, according to reports, the Spanish star quashed that possibility owing to his loyalty to the former club, Manchester United.
