Former Manchester United striker and current Derby County Boss Wayne Rooney has been advised to stay away from the Everton vacant managerial vacant position as it is not the best fit for him at this time.
According to The Sun, Former Watford captain Troy Deeney has called on Wayne Rooney to snub the call of Everton and continue his coaching development with current team Derby County in the English Championship.
Rooney was appointed as Derby manager in 2020 on an intial 18-month contract as a player-coach with the former Everton striker saving the Rams from relegation last season.
However, fortunes have not smiled on Rooney and Derby County this season as the club has gone into administration and seen points deducted as they face a huge task of staying in the Championship this term.
The Everton job seems like the perfect escape route for Wayne Rooney but Deeney insists Everton is not the right fit for the former England international as they have lost their identity under new owner Fahad Moshiri.
“If Wayne Rooney was working in any other walk of life, you’d look at a business like Everton and tell him not to touch the manager’s job with a bargepole”.
“This is a club which used to have a clear identity, used to over-achieve and which was widely admired inside football — not least by me”
“In the six years since Farhad Moshiri bought the Toffees, though, it has felt as if they have been throwing enough mud at the wall and hoping some of it sticks”.
