- Nathan Tella has been with Southampton since 2019 and the midfielder has played 29 games so far, netting 1 goal
- Super Eagles of Nigeria are currently in Cameroon where they are campaigning in the ongoing African Cup of Nations
Nathan Tella who plays as a midfielder for Premier League side Southampton has confirmed his readiness to play for the Super Eagles of Nigeria and not the Three-Lions of England.
Over the years, there have been serious tussles between England and Nigeria over the allegiances of some players, most especially those born in the European nation.
Last year, despite all efforts by the Nigerian Football Federation to convince Tammy Abraham and Fikayo Tomori to play for Nigeria, these two players turned their backs on Super Eagles, choosing England.
However, there are some players like Alex Iwobi and Ola Aina who were also born in England, but decided to represent Nigeria and have even played more than 10 games for Super Eagles.
Where and when was Nathan Tella born?
Nathan Tella was born in Lambeth, England to Nigerian parents in July 1999 which makes him eligible to play for Nigeria or England.
Nathan Tella's reaction on playing for Nigeria
"Yeah' It's true. I haven't been contacted as such but I'm in the process of sorting out my passport for them.
"Whatever happens in the future I am just focused on being here and, yes, trying to score goals and help the team win and progress."
