  • Chelsea vs Liverpool seems to be gathering momentum, but the Blues will not be having the services of Romelu Lukaku
  • The former Inter Milan striker who arrived the Stamford Bridge club during the summer suggested that he missed playing for the Serie A club
  • Reports say the Belgian has been dropped while manager Thomas Tuchel will make a number of changes to his side

Chelsea set to host Liverpool in a highly anticipated English Premier League fixture as reports claim Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku has been dropped from the Blues’ squad, Liverpool Echo reports.

The forward sparked controversy with his recent comments when he said he never wanted to league Inter Milan as he is not happy with the situation at Chelsea.

Lukaku’s comments was said to have infuriated Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel who stated that the player has only attracted unwanted noise for the club.

SunSport are now reporting that the 28-year-old has been dripped from the squad that will face Liverpool in what seem to be a must-win encounter.

Both clubs are chasing runaway Manchester City who are on top of the Premier League standings, and a draw will not favour either of them.

Tuchel to ring changes in squad

Chelsea will be without Andreas Christensen and Reece James who were injured in their 1-1 draw with Brighton in the midweek, meaning there will be changed to the defence line-up.

Tuchel is set to start Edouard Edouard Mendy in goal before the shop stopper heads to the Africa Cup of Nations tournament.

The Blues' boss is likely to call Trevoh Chalobah into the starting-eleven as Thiago Silva was also spotted in training recently and he is expected to return.

Cesar Azpilicueta is likely to be the player chosen to cover James at right wing-back, with Marcos Alonso deputising in the absence of Chilwell.

In midfield, N’Golo Kante will be eager to regain his starting spot after injuring his knee against Aston Villa on Boxing Day.

Predicted Chelsea XI:

Mendy, Silva, Chalobah, Rudiger; Azpilicueta, Kante, Jorginho, Alonso; Hudson-Odoi, Mount, Havertz.

Tuchel says Chelsea are no longer in title race

Sports Brief earlier reported that Thomas Tuchel is under pressure as his squad is depleted due to injuries to different players, as well as Covid crisis.

The manager has expressed frustration following Chelsea’s draw at home to Brighton in the Premier League.

He has now said that the Blues are no longer in this season’s title race, lamenting that ‘everyone is injured’.
