Shifting focus to the action on the track, Red Bull Racing seeks redemption after their lacklustre performance at the Australian Grand Prix. Meanwhile, rivals like Ferrari are eager to secure another victory following their triumph in Australia.

Team Principal, Frederick Vasseur, as quoted by RacingNews365, is confident in his team's ability to challenge Red Bull this weekend in Suzuka, adding an extra layer of excitement to the race weekend.

As anticipation builds for the Grand Prix, Sports Brief takes a look back at the past five winners of the iconic Suzuka race.

Japanese GP past winners

Max Verstappen - 2023

The Dutch driver stormed to victory and sealed the 2023 Constructors' title for Red Bull with his commanding 19-second win over McLaren’s duo of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri.

Verstappen undoubtedly made light work of the grid the last time out in Suzuka, and it is anticipated he will do so again come race Sunday.

Max Verstappen - 2022

The 26-year-old will remember the 2022 race for a multitude of reasons. Not only did he cruise to a 27-second victory over teammate Sergio Perez, but he also secured his second drivers' championship, this time without controversy.

Verstappen's win also ensured Red Bull clinched their first Constructors' title since 2013.

Valtteri Bottas - 2019

The Finnish driver was the last to clinch victory in Suzuka before the coronavirus pandemic in 2020 and the F1 rule change of 2022.

Bottas, in his Mercedes, stormed to a 13-second lead ahead of Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel, and teammate, Lewis Hamilton.

Lewis Hamilton - 2018

Hamilton clinched his fifth victory in Suzuka in 2018, following a dominant drive.

The British driver finished over 12 seconds ahead of his teammate, Bottas. The 2018 race was marked by the wheel-to-wheel racing in the final lap between Bottas and Verstappen.

Lewis Hamilton - 2017

Hamilton was also the winner of the 2017 edition of the race. The Mercedes driver stormed to victory ahead of the Red Bull duo, Daniel Ricciardo and Verstappen.

The 2017 edition was marked by chaos, with five drivers failing to finish the race.

Japanese Grand Prix preview

Sports Brief also previously offered a detailed preview, plus information and predictions, for the upcoming Formula 1 Japanese Grand Prix.

Set to take place in Suzuka, this race represents a crucial stage in the 2024 season's Asian leg as drivers aim to end Max Verstappen's reign.

Several teams, including Mercedes AMG, are keen to enhance their performance after the challenges they faced in the previous three races.
