Max Verstappen stole the show once again as the Formula 1 circus shifted attention to the Jeddah Corniche circuit for the second race of the 2024 season.

The Dutch sensation, having clinched pole position in qualifying, effortlessly dominated the main race, smoothly navigating from start to finish.

The three-time world champion basically had only a few overtakes to make through the race. This was after Aston Martin driver, Lance Stroll, had crashed into the barriers on the ninth lap of the race.

Clinching consecutive victories in the opening two races of a Formula 1 season for the first time in his illustrious career, Verstappen went on to etch his name into the record books once more on this electrifying night.

Verstappen makes history

The Red Bull Racing driver's triumph on the night not only propelled the Austrian team past Williams Racing as the fourth team with the most victories in F1 history, but also marked a milestone for the Dutch driver, who secured his 100th podium finish in his twenties, a first in the sport's history as captured by @redbullracing.

The 26-year-old, who made his debut in the sport with Toro Rosso at the Australian Grand Prix in 2015, has now achieved a staggering 56 race victories in that time.

The victory at the Jeddah Corniche circuit also sees Verstappen matching his record for the second-most consecutive race victories - nine, in the history of the sport. Another win for the Red Bull driver in Australia would not only match but also surpass this record, along with equaling his other record for the most consecutive race victories - 10 ever in the history of the sport.

Verstappen crossed the finish line 13 seconds ahead of his teammate, Sergio Perez, whose second-place finish ensured the Milton Keynes team’s remarkable start to the 2024 season continued unabated.

Vettel confirms chat with Mercedes chief

Sports Brief in another report highlighted that retired Formula 1 driver, Sebastian Vettel, has confirmed he had conversations with Mercedes Principal, Toto Wolff.

This report comes amid Mercedes' search for a fitting replacement for departing driver, Lewis Hamilton.

The 36-year-old, however, hinted that the discussion does not automatically translate to a potential return to the sport for him.
