RugbyVirat Kohli Becomes The Punchline of Jokes, Memes And Criticism After DRS Outburst
- Indian captain Virat Kohli sent world cricket into a tailspin after highly controversial comments he made in the heat of battle
- Dean Elgar dodged a seemingly plum LBW decision after DRS somehow gave him a reprieve, leading to Kohli accusing broadcaster SuperSport of skulduggery
- These comments were not nearly welcomed by social media users worldwide, with some demanding that he be punished for his comments
India's captain Virat Kohli was the subject of ridicule and criticism after his petulant utterances during the third Test match between South Africa and India in Cape Town.
Late in the afternoon of the third day's play, Dean Elgar was trapped LBW by the wily bowling of Ravichandran Ashwin. Seemingly plum in front, Elgar still used a review, which surprisingly return a "not out" verdict, forcing umpire Marais Erasmus to overturn his decision.
This did not sit well at all with Kohli, as reported in ESPNCricinfo, as he made his feelings known. He went up to the stump mic and said:
"Focus on your team while they shine the ball. Not just the opposition. Trying to catch people all the time."
According to News24, Ashwin chimed in that broadcaster SuperSport find other ways to help South Africa win, while KL Rahul alleged that the incident was 'the whole country was playing against 11 guys'.
South Africa went onto win the match.
Kohli was castigated locally and abroad for his actions, with demands for his punishment.

"If Kohli and Ashwin aren't given bans by the Match Referee, then the whole system is a charade. That kind of behaviour cannot be condoned."
@pavilionopinion said:
"ICC statement on Kohli stump mic rant: "After reviewing the audio and video we have decided to award three demerit points to Rabada for being in the ground when the incident occurred."
Thabang Nong said:
"Lost respect for Kohli and his band of misfits. Their utterance were totally out of line. This isn’t in line with the spirit of cricket and I hope ICC does something.

"India may have some good sportsmen in the team but unfortunately with attitude and dissent they are very poor losers."
