BoxingDeontay Wilder vs Joseph Parker: Boxing Pundit Explains Why the Bout’s Outcome Was No Surprise
- Deontay Wilder vs Joseph Parker bout ended with the favourite being beaten at his own game
- Many boxing fans tipped the American boxer as the clear favourite before the bout in Riyadh
- The bout's outcome was no surprise to popular boxing pundit, with Parker being rated high
Nigerian boxing pundit Bamidele Bakare has disclosed why the outcome of the bout between Deontay Wilder and Joseph Parker in Saudi Arabia was no surprise.
Wilder was tipped as the favourite to win the bout, but Parker surprised many boxing fans by coming out victorious.
Wilder appeared to be a shadow of himself and was beaten at his own game by New Zealand boxer Parker, who won unanimously.
Parker won the fight by a unanimous decision, with the judges scoring it 118-111, 118-110 and 120-108, according to BBC Sports.
Sharing his thoughts about the fight, Pundit Bakare told Sports Brief why Parker is not a low-ranked fighter, as most boxing fans think, and explained why he was not surprised by the outcome.
"First of all, I think Joseph Parker shouldn't be considered a low-ranked boxer; he's had his few losses: he lost to Anthony Joshua, and he lost to the juggernaut ( that is Joe Joyce) at some point, which was still very impressive," he said.
"I was not surprised(Parker won the bout) because I went into the fight with a free mind, but if you checked all the rounds, Joseph Parker dominated all. That alone should let you know that you can't consider Parker a 'low-ranked' boxer.
"The fact that many people in the boxing world do not know him so well or don't know his prowess or what he can do doesn't make him a 'low-ranked' boxer.

Football"If he is a low-ranked boxer, he would've never fought Anthony Joshua, Joe Joyce, and some very interesting bouts that he's had."
Bakare also shared his thoughts on Parker being a worthy opponent for Wilder.
"Parker is a worthy opponent for Wilder; it's just that there has been so much hype around Deontay Wilder over the years due to the way he fights his opponents, he goes really aggressive, and also because he had a draw fight with Tyson Fury in their first bout," he added.
"Joseph Parker proved it yesterday (that he was a worthy opponent) and did really great; he was dropping some cool overhead punches, which is like using Wilder's strategy against him."

The highly anticipated fight night, hosted in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, attracted a constellation of stars, including sporting luminaries like Conor McGregor and Ronaldo himself.
