  • Noah Lyles' plan to stardom began when he made his debut in 2016
  • Lyles always had the iconic Usain Bolt in his vision board for his career
  • This year, he matched a couple of Bolt's records at the World Championships

Noah Lyles has shed more light on his track and field plans after a record-breaking season. Lyles had a dominant 2023 season, culminating in winning three gold medals at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

Despite all his success on the track, the American has so often insisted that he would like to elevate the game's levels by making it a more competitive and attractive sport.

The 26-year-old has used his platforms to champion equal coverage for track and field events. He famously got into a vicious war with NBA players when he called them out for using the term 'world champions' for the title holders.

In an interview with NBC Sports, Lyles admitted that his plan to change the game began in 2016 when he made his debut.

"When I started my professional career in 2016, I remember meeting my agent for the first time. I told him that along with the goals I wanted to achieve in the track world, I wanted to transcend the sport. I refuse to just be another athlete that is known for running."

Usain Bolt's legacy

He specifically mentioned Usain Bolt's name, who became the leading brand of the sport with his dominance in the sprint races. Now retired, he won eight Olympic gold medals during his time.

"I specifically said, I know what Bolt has done. I want to do more. The saddening part is the deeper and deeper I get into the sport, the more and more I realize why it’s been so stuck. We’re still running on the same model that we’ve been using since 1970s. That track club environment."

This year, Lyles became the first person since Bolt to win the three-peat in a single championship and the second person after the Jamaican to win three consecutive gold medals in the 200m.

He has done fashion walks at the Met Gala, US Opens, and other events and continues using his name and successes to build the sport. He will be angling for a first Olympic gold medal in Paris, France, next year.

Lyles, Shericka Jackson team up for holiday

Sports Brief has previously reported that Lyles and Shericka Jackson teamed up in Jamaica, where they are currently enjoying their post-season holidays.

Lyles, alongside his Jamaican girlfriend Junelle Bromfield, has been sharing pictures and videos on Instagram of their holiday with Jackson.
