Tobi Amusan Wins Stockholm Diamond League Women’s 100m Hurdles

• The incredible Nigerian sprinter edged out Sarah Lavin and Pia Skrzyszowska who finished in second and third
• It was an improvement from Amusan who finished third at a continental tour event in the Czech Republic recently

Nigerian athlete, Tobi Amusan, has won the women’s 100-metre hurdles at the Stockholm Diamond League with an impressive time of 12.52 seconds.

The 26-year-old crossed the finish line just ahead of Sarah Lavin, who clocked a personal best of 12.73s for second, while Pia Skrzyszowska finished third in 12.78s.

It was a better performance for Amusan, who finished second in the 100m hurdles event at the Lausanne Diamond League on Friday, Vanguard reports.

It is the Nigerian star’s first Diamond League event of the season, having also won the Racers Grand Prix in Jamaica.

She is the current world record holder in the 100m hurdles and is a favourite to win gold at the 2024 Summer Olympics from July next year in Paris.

Amusan made history in 2022

Meanwhile, Amusan made history in 2022, becoming the first-ever Nigerian to win gold at the World Athletics Championships in a time of 12.12s.

Not only did she dust others in her category, but she also broke and set a new record in the semi-final by smashing Kendra Harrison’s record of 12.20s.

Amusan recorded 12.06s in the final, but this was disallowed as the World Athletics Integrity Unit as ineligible, as the wind speed was over the limit.

Tobi Amusan bags Master’s Degree

Sports Brief also reported on Amusan recently completed her master’s degree program at the University of Texas El Paso in the United States.

The world record holder in the 100m hurdles shared moments from her graduation ceremony, much to the delight of her Instagram followers.

The 26-year-old Amusan narrated how her journey to the degree had started, adding she was encouraged by many of her personal mentors.
