Kenya Wins 15th World Athletics Championship In China

Kenya has made history by winning the 15th International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) world championship in Beijing, China that came to a close on Sunday August 30. 

Kenya led the pack with 7 gold, 6 silver and 3 bronze medals.

Asbel Kiprop capped the seventh gold medal and became the first Kenyan to win a hat trick in men’s 1,500m in 3 minutes 34.40 seconds.

Kiprop's team mate Elijah Manangoi took the silver in 3:34.63 and Morocco's Abdelaati Iguider threw himself across the line to secure the bronze in 3:34.67.

Ezekiel Kemboi – 3000 Metres Steeplechase

Hyvin Kiyeng Jepkemoi – 3000 Metres Steeplechase

Geoffrey Kipsang Kamworor – 10,000 Metres

Conseslus Kipruto – 3000 Metres Steeplechase

Faith Chepngetich Kipyegon – 1500 Metres

Caleb Mwangangi Ndiku – 5000 Metres

BRONZE MEDALS:

Paul Kipngetich Tanui – 10,000 Metres

Brimin Kiprop Kipruto – 3000 Metres Steeplechase

Eunice Jepkoech Sum – 800 Metres

Since the modern day world athletics championship first held in 1983 Kenya has so far collected 145 gold, 94 silver and 78 bronze medals.

Jamaica finished second overall with 7 gold, 2 silver and 3 bronze while United States of America came third with 5 gold, 6 silver and 6 bronze.
