  • Scandal has befallen the 2022 Comrades Marathon, months after the ultimate race ended
  • Reports have emerged that several athletes stand to be disqualified after they allegedly cheated
  • Those implicated are said to have completed the race without running the full distance

Months after the race, the 2022 Comrades Marathon has been hit with a scandal.

Nine runners stand to be disqualified and their times dismissed, after they allegedly cheated on the 90km 'down' run from Pietermaritzburg to Durban in late August.

They allegedly did not run the entire course, though how they initially got away with this remains to be revealed.

“These athletes are being sent official communication and will be given seven days to respond to the KZNA notification. Should the athlete dispute the findings, KZNA will undertake a formal disciplinary hearing."

The KZNA explained some athletes had been charged with multiple offences, some of which originated during qualification or at other events, adding they would be disciplined for each alleged offence.

Another statement via the Highway Mail said:

“Athletes accepting the findings have been informed of the discipline procedures to be applied. These measures include but are not restricted to: Being removed from the 2022 Comrades Marathon Results; a period of suspension from all Athletics events; forfeiture of previous events where they have been found to breach athletics association rules."

Those who were caught will also have to return their medals as a final insult.

Runner who proposed gets answer

Prudence has said 'yes' to Joseph Kagiso Ndlovu's iconic marriage proposal.

Runner B14410 made worldwide headlines as he was completing the 2022 Comrades Marathon in Durban in August. As he ran towards the finish line at the Moses Mabhida Stadium, Ndlovu held up a banner asking a lucky woman to marry him.

Since that moment, many have anticipated him getting his heart's desire. It has since been reported that Prudence, whose surname remains unknown, did say yes to his romantic marriage proposal, Sports Brief reported.

Social media was in an absolute state after what transpired.
