Super Eagles' new manager, Finidi George, has said his goodbyes to Enyimba FC and is set to resume his role as the Nigerian men's national team boss this week.

The former Real Betis winger was appointed by the Aba-based coach three years ago and led the team to the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) last season.

The 53-year-old worked as an assistant manager to Jose Peseiro at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, where Nigeria finished second behind the host nation, Ivory Coast.

Finidi was named the team's interim coach after the Portuguese tactician decided to leave his post after the tournament.

After being named the Super Eagles' new boss, he has decided to leave his current job as Enyimba coach, penning an emotional goodbye message to the club's fans, staff, and management.

"After three years, I will be departing Enyimba. I asked for something smaller, but God gave me a more significant one," the former Mallorca star said.

"I didn't know when I was applying for the U-17 job, which I applied twice. I kept my cool and decided to join the Aba Giants, but how God wanted it, I was given the Super Eagles job.

Finidi added his appreciation and promised not to forget everyone who made Enyimba like a family to him.

"Certainly, I will soon come to Aba to watch Enyimba play because my assignment now is to make a team with foreign and home-based players."

According to a report by the Daily Post, the new Super Eagles coach won't finish the present season with them.

Finidi nominates foreign coaches as assistants

Sports Brief also reported that Finidi nominated three foreign candidates for assistant roles within the Super Eagles.

The former Ajax star has reportedly compiled a shortlist of coaches who he was keen to have in his backroom team.

Finidi's list is also said to include Daniel Amokachi as a second assistant and Abiodun Baruwa, as goalkeeper coach.
