Kaizer Chiefs' ambition of signing legendary South African manager, Pitso Mosimane, as their new head coach at the end of the season is facing a major threat from Nigeria.
The three-time Africa Cup of Nations winners are presently without a head coach after parting ways with Jose Peseiro after his contract with the Nigeria Football Federation expired in February.
According to The South African, Nigeria has shortlisted Mosimane as one of the potential candidates to take over from the Portuguese as they kickstart their search for a new manager.
Interestingly, the former Bafana Bafana and Mamelodi Sundowns manager is Amakhosi’s priority target as they are set to part ways with interim manager Cavin Johnson at the end of the season as they look to sign a new coach.

Mosimane’s short-term deal with Saudi Pro League club Abha comes to an end at the end of the season. This means he will be a free agent, but Kaizer Chiefs will need to outbid Nigeria to ensure they can get their dream manager.
Nigeria coaching job declared vacant
Meanwhile, the NFF declared the position of Super Eagles head coach vacant on Friday after ending talks with Peseiro about continuing as Nigeria’s coach following the expiration of his contract, Complete Sports reports.
Nigeria has shortlisted former France Head coach, Laurent Blanc, and recently departed Algeria manager, Djamel Belmadi, alongside Mosimane for the vacant Super Eagles role.
The NFF has also thrown open the position to applicants to apply for the role as the search for a new coach continues for the three-time African champions.

Mosimane spent most of his coaching career in Africa and understood the rudiments of managing an African side and the type of football played on the continent, which places him at an advantage over other candidates.
