Could fight fans finally get a showdown between Dricus du Plessis and Israel Adesanya?

The two Middleweights, who hail from Africa, have been on a collision course for a long time before The Last Stylebender lost his title to Sean Strickland.

The paths could cross again following du Plessis’ victory over Strickland.

As noted by IOL, Stillknocks beat the American champion via split decision to claim the Middleweight strap. Two of the three judges gave it in his favour, while the other scored it for Strickland.

Du Plessis calls out Adesanya

During his post-fight interview, Du Plessis praised Strickland before focusing on the future.

While he joked about Alex Pereira being at cage side, there was only one man he wanted to face. The duo were due to face each other at UFC 293, but du Plessis had to pull out of a scheduled bout due to injury.

What’s Adesanya’s status with UFC?

Adesanya, a former dominant champion of the Middleweight division, decided to step away from the fight game after his last loss.

Marca noted that The Last Stylebender was taking a break to look after himself and tend to his injuries.

"Now I'm going to take time to look after myself, and I'm not going to fight for a long time,” he said at the time.

The Last Stylebender has been spotted training after rumours started swirling that he could step up in weight class to take on Alex Pereira.

Du Plessis fires warning shot at Adesanya

Sports Brief reported that Dricus du Plessis was still taking shots at Israel Adesanya.

The South African fighter and Nigerian-born MMA artist have been embroiled in a bitter feud recently.

Stillknocks recently called on The Last Stylebender to get his stuff together ahead of a potential fight.

Strickland defeats Adesanya for UFC gold

Sports Brief also reported that Sean Strickland became the new UFC Middleweight champion at UFC 293.

The American fighter produced one of the biggest upsets in modern-day UFC history when he beat Israel Adesanya.

Strickland beat The Last Stylebender by unanimous decision to claim the gold in the main event of the pay-per-view.
