Here we go again.

Islam Makhachev will defend his UFC lightweight belt against former champion Charles Oliveira in a rematch on October 21 in Abu Dhabi.

UFC president Dana White announced on Wednesday night that Makhachev vs. Oliveira 2 will be the main event of UFC 294.

The current and former lightweight champs locked horns last October at UFC 280, with Makhachev defeating Oliveira in the second round via submission to capture the then-vacant UFC lightweight title, per ESPN.

Makhachev's impressive winning streak

Makhachev, who carries a 24-1 MMA record, is coming off a unanimous-decision victory over featherweight champ Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 284 last February.

With that victory, the Russian star extended his winning streak to 12 fights, all of which came in the UFC.

The 31-year-old is the student and longtime training partner of former UFC lightweight champ Khabib Nurmagomedov, per Yahoo Sports.

The Dagestan native will fancy his chances of stretching that unbeaten run to 13 fights as he made short work of Oliveira in their last meeting.

Oliveira beats Dariush via TKO

That being said, the Brazilian-born fighter is coming off an impressive first-round TKO win over Beneil Dariush at UFC 289 last month.

That victory helped Oliveira secure a rematch with Makhachev. He is looking to regain the lightweight title he first won back in May 2021 against Michael Chandler.

His reign as lightweight champ didn’t last long, though, as he was stripped of the championship after missing weight before a fight with Justin Gaethje in May 2022.

The 33-year-old challenger has the most finishes (20) and submission victories (16) in the history of the UFC.

Fans who wanted an immediate rematch between Makhachev and Volkanovski were left disappointed with the news.

Volkanovski expressed his interest in fighting Makhachev again after destroying Yair Rodriguez in their featherweight title showdown at UFC 290 earlier this month.

Zuckerberg trains with UFC champs

Sports Brief recently reported on Mark Zuckerberg training with Israel Adesanya and Volkanovski.

Adesanya posted the photos on his social media accounts.

The Meta CEO has competed in several Brazilian jiu-jitsu competitions before.
