Conor McGregor has Rico DiSciullo to thank for helping him save face in The Ultimate Fighter.
The UFC legend had lost seven straight Ultimate Fighter bouts and was on the brink of becoming the first head coach in the reality television series to lose all eight of his quarter-final fights.
DiSciullo made sure ‘Notorious’ would not face that humiliation, recording a stunning win over UFC veteran Hunter Azure that earned him a ride on his coach’s luxury car.
His victory was somewhat surprising as he was the lowest-ranked bantamweight in the competition, per TalkSport.
McGregor feared the worst, even asking UFC President Dana White before DiSciullo’s bout what would happen if Michael Chandler’s team completed a clean sweep against his squad.
White didn’t know how to answer McGregor’s question as that scenario had never happened in the past 30 seasons of the popular series.
Fortunately for the Irishman, that worst-case scenario didn’t materialize during his second stint as TUF coach.
DiSciullo knocks out Azure
He had to sweat it out, though, as Azure dominated the Boston native for the majority of the five-minute opening round.
DiSciullo managed to land some hard blows of his own during that frame, even cutting Azure with a barrage of elbows to his head.
He continued his assault in the second round, landing several strikes before connecting with a vicious right hand that sent Azure down to the mat, per ESPN.

McGregor celebrated his fighter's win, praising him for the victory before heading backstage.
DiSciullo turned up for practice the following day and jokingly asked his coach when he was going to let him take his Lamborghini for a ride.
The former dual-weight champion heeded his request, with DiSciullo seen moments later driving the Lambo, with his coach as his passenger.
