There is a new king in the flyweight division
Alexandre Pantoja proved that he is a real problem in the 125-pound division, beating Brandon Moreno by split decision to become the new UFC flyweight champion.
Two judges scored the bout 48-47 in favor of Pantoja. The other judge had Moreno winning 49-46.
Pantoja remains undefeated against Moreno
It was an incredibly superb showing from the Brazilian, who improved his UFC record to 10-3.
Pantoja extended his winning streak to four matches with the victory over Moreno, per CBS Sports.
He is now 3-0 in his career against the Mexican fighter. They previously met in May 2018, with Pantoja recording a unanimous decision win over Moreno.
They put on a show in their rematch, going toe to toe for five rounds in an epic slugfest.
The fifth round proved to be the difference as the two judges who scored the bout 48-47 gave it to Pantoja, per Yahoo Sports.
Moreno landed heavy strikes in the first half of that final round but it was Pantoja's grappling in the last minutes of the fight that sealed the win for him.
Heartbreak for Moreno again
It was a disappointing loss for Moreno, who recorded more significant strikes than Pantoja in their title fight (117-101).
Pantoja dominated on the ground, though. He had ground control for four minutes and eight seconds in the championship fight.
Moreno once again failed to successfully defend his flyweight title. He lost in his last title defense against Deiveson Figueiredo at UFC 270.
Volkanovski reigns supreme again
