- Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic will face each other at UFC 295 for the heavyweight title
- Madison Square Garden will host one of the biggest UFC fights ever on November 11
- Jones and Miocic are two of the most decorated fighters in the history of the UFC
Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic will lock horns for the UFC heavyweight championship at the world’s most famous arena at UFC 295.
UFC President Dana White sent fans into a frenzy before Friday’s UFC 290 ceremonial weigh-ins when he announced that Jones will defend his heavyweight title against the former two-time champ Miocic.
Their fight will take place on November 11 at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
Jones captures heavyweight gold
Jones made a triumphant return last March after a long three-year layoff, beating Ciryl Gane via submission in the first round at UFC 285 to win the vacant heavyweight title.
He made history with that victory, recording the most wins in UFC title fights ever with 15, per ESPN.
The New York native now holds the heavyweight championship in addition to his record-setting dominance at light heavyweight.
Jones successfully defended his light heavyweight title 11 times, tying the UFC record with Demetrious Johnson, who dominated the flyweight division.
Miocic returns after long layoff
Jones will look to extend that record against Miocic, who has not fought since losing the heavyweight title to Francis Ngannou at UFC 260 in March 2021.
Prior to that loss, the Ohio native defeated Daniel Cormier in two consecutive fights to win their trilogy rivalry.
The 40-year-old’s four successful title defenses at heavyweight are the most in UFC history in that division, per Bleacher Report. He has a 20-4 MMA record with 15 knockouts.
White hyped up their much-anticipated showdown, saying:
What is Jake Paul’s professional boxing record? Here is the list of all the big names he has defeated in the ring to date
Boxing"This is the fight Jon Jones wanted. It's the fight Stipe wanted, and it is a legacy fight for both of these guys."
UFC 290 preview
Sports Brief recently previewed the fights at UFC 290, including the featherweight title showdown between Alexander Volkanovski and Yair Rodriguez.
Volkanovski has won 12 straight featherweight contests in the UFC, the last five of which were championship fights.
He will be tested, though, by Rodriguez, who won the interim title after beating Josh Emmett via second-round submission.
