The race to end Muyideen Olaitan’s consecutive reign as the champion of the annual Ikeja Golf Club championship will commence on November 20 and end November 26.

Situated at the heart of Lagos, the Ikeja Golf Club will host at least 200 golfers from across the country for the 2023 edition of the tournament. Ahead of the games, the club’s Captain, Sina Akinyemi has promised golfers, the media and spectators of a memorable edition as the club marks its 55th anniversary.

The week-long championship will begin on Monday November 20 with the staff and caddies. On Tuesday November 21, veterans and professionals will take to the game area, while female golfers will stake their claim for glory on Wednesday November 22.

Thursday November 23, the club will host a special kitty and auction night. Friday November 24, will see men golfers playing handicap 19 and above jostle for a place in the grand finale, while men golfers on Handicap 1 and 18 will attempt to challenge previous scores recorded to book a place in the final on Saturday November 25.

Golfers with the best scores will take a step closer to lifting the prestigious championship trophy by competing in the grand finale on Sunday November 26. Without a doubt, participating golfers are keen to prevent Olaitan from completing a treble of championship victories.

However, should Olaitan successfully defend his title, golfers are set for a renewed opportunity to dethrone him. The tide is expected to turn next year with the inauguration of the multi-million naira Integrated Golf Range project. Spearheaded by the leadership committee of Ikeja Golf Club, under the guidance of Captain Akinyemi. This state-of-the-art facility is poised to reshape the golf landscape and pave the way for a more competitive future.

The legacy project is on course to place Ikeja Golf Club on the global golf map when commissioned. It would house state-of-art facilities such as long and short game areas, practice range, virtual golf simulation zone, lounge, 60-vehicle capacity car park with roof netting, among other facilities.

The forthcoming project promises to level the playing field for all club golfers, narrowing the competitive gap in major tournaments like the annual golf championship. The Integrated Golf Range Project will ensure that less skilled players can bridge the gap through consistent standard practice, transforming the club's golf landscape

The competition is supported by ADL Solutions, Express payment, Prime metro and Golf view hotels.
