All eyes will be in Cancun Mexico from Sunday, October 29 as women’s tennis heavyweights have a showdown at the WTA Finals.
The top eight singles players and doubles teams will go head to head in a bid to determine the best in the sport, with youngster Coco Gauff having a strong case to make for herself.
Gauff, ranked number 3 in the world and number 4 in doubles, particularly has a lot at stake as he could etch her name in the history books from different fronts.
But it will not be easy, as the 19-year old will come up against some heavyweights including Aryna Sabalenka and Iga Swiatek, who could become the first player since Serena Williams to win more than 130 matches in a two-year span.
How the finals will go down
As reported on Sky Sports, the eight singles players will be divided into pools of four, with every player coming up against each other in their respective group.
Tennis.com further reports that both pools’ top two players then advance to the single-elimination semi-final then the final. The same format applies for the doubles teams.
With such a format, the very best of the best are likely to clash at some point thanks to its round-robin format.
