Djokovic’s road to the final

Djokovic barged into the final of the 2023 US Open with a comprehensive 6-3, 6-2, 7-6 (4) win over Ben Shelton on Friday.

It was a huge victory for the Serb star, who reached a US Open final for the tenth time in his career, per Yahoo Sports.

He dominated the American right from the get-go, finishing the match in two hours and 41 minutes.

Providing the impetus for his victory was his excellent return. He won 44 percent of his receiving points against Shelton and converted five of his 14 break-point chances.

He will need to be at his best in the final, as Medvedev stands in his way.

The Russian loves playing at Flushing Meadows, reaching the final in 2019 and 2021.

Djokovic knows fully well the threat that Medvedev brings as he was the one who foiled his bid to complete the Calendar Slam in 2021.

Djokovic's odds of winning the final are pegged at 1.41.

Medvedev’s road to the final

Medvedev moved into the final of the 2023 US Open with a thrilling 7-6 (3), 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 win over Alcaraz on Friday.

It was a fantastic performance by the No. 3 seed, who needed three hours and 19 minutes to record the four-set victory, per The Guardian.

The first frame proved to be the pivotal set for Medvedev. He had fewer winners (12-16), more unforced errors (12-9), and more double faults (6-0) than Alcaraz during that opening set but still won it via a tiebreak.

Medvedev took advantage of that gift, taking the second and fourth sets to reach his third US Open final.

A familiar foe awaits the Russian in the championship match as he will face Djokovic again.

It is a rematch of the 2021 US Open final, which Medvedev won in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4.

Djokovic has been in fine form in this tournament, dropping just two sets in six matches played thus far.

He was tested in the third round, coming back from two sets down to beat Laslo Djere.

For Medvedev to record the all-important victory, he must put pressure on Djokovic’s serve.

He won 38 percent of his receiving points and converted just three of his seven break-point opportunities against Alcaraz in the semis.

It is also important for Medvedev that his first serve works in the final. He won 82 percent of his first-serve points against Alcaraz.

Medvedev's odds of winning the final are pegged at 3.25.

Writer's Prediction

Djokovic (1.41) beats Medvedev in five sets to win his 24th Grand Slam title.

Alcaraz borrows Bellingham’s celebration

Sports Brief recently reported on Alcaraz borrowing Jude Bellingham’s celebration at the 2023 US Open.

He pulled off the celebration after his quarter-final victory over Alexander Zverev.

Alcaraz is a known Real Madrid supporter.
