Ons Jabeur’s quest to win her first Grand Slam title is still very much alive.
She advanced to the Wimbledon semi-finals after beating defending champion Elena Rybakina in three sets.
The 28-year-old will look to reach the Wimbledon final for the second straight year later today when she takes on Aryna Sabalenka in a mouth-watering semis clash.
Jabeur’s road to the semis
Jabeur moved into the semi-finals of the 2023 Wimbledon Championships with a thrilling 6-7 (5), 6-4, 6-1 win over Rybakina on Wednesday.
It was a fantastic performance by the No. 6 seed, who needed one hour and 53 minutes to record the come from behind victory, per The Guardian.
Jabeur got sweet revenge on Rybakina after losing to her in the Wimbledon final last year.
Things are bound to get tougher, though, for the 28-year-old as standing in her way in the next round is the red-hot Sabalenka.
The Belarusian has been in fine form in this tournament, dropping just one set in five matches played thus far.
For Jabeur to record the all-important victory, she needs to continue her excellent return play and put pressure on the second seed’s serve.
She won 42 percent of her receiving points and converted five of her nine break-point opportunities against Rybakina in the quarters.
It is also important that she continues her highly-efficient play. She blasted 35 winners and committed just 18 unforced errors in the win against the Kazakh.

Sabalenka barged into the semi-finals of the 2023 Wimbledon Championships with a comprehensive 6-2, 6-4 win over Madison Keys on Wednesday.

Sabalenka dominated the American right from the get-go, finishing the match in just one hour and 27 minutes, per WTA.
Providing the impetus for her victory was her excellent return. She won 49 percent of her receiving points against Keys and converted four of her nine break-point chances.
Next up for Sabalenka is a semi-final clash with Jabeur. This will be the fifth meeting between the pair on the WTA Tour, with the world No. 2 leading their head-to-head matchup 3-1.
They faced each other in the Wimbledon quarter-finals back in 2021, with Sabalenka recording a 6-4, 6-3 victory.
