Djokovic’s road to the semis

Djokovic stormed to his sixth consecutive Wimbledon semi-final with a 4-6, 6-1, 6-4, 6-3 win over Rublev on Centre Court on Tuesday.

It was an excellent performance from the seven-time Wimbledon champion, who needed two hours and 48 minutes to oust the Russian star, per ATP.

Djokovic, who improved to 4-1 against Rublev, blasted 42 winners and won 75 percent of his first-serve points in the quarter-finals.

Next up for the 23-time Grand Slam champion is a semi-final clash with Sinner.

The 36-year-old has fared well in his past meetings with Sinner, winning each of their previous two matches, including a 5-7, 2-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-2 victory in the Wimbledon quarter-finals last year.

For Djokovic to extend his dominance against Sinner, he will need to continue his solid play on the receiving end.

He won 39 percent of his receiving points and converted five of his 12 break-point opportunities against Rublev.

Sinner’s road to the semis

Sinner barged into his first career Wimbledon semi-final with an impressive 6-4, 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 victory over Safiullin on Tuesday.

It was a remarkable performance from the 21-year-old, who needed just two hours and 14 minutes to record the four-set victory, per Yahoo Sports.

Key to Sinner’s win was his excellent serve. He won 90 percent of his first-serve points against the Russian.

The Italian star’s occasional forays to the net also paid dividends, as he won 15 of his 22 points there in the quarters.

The road to the championship will only get harder for the No. 8 seed, though, as standing in his way in the semi-finals is the unstoppable Djokovic.

The No. 2 seed has won his last 33 matches at the All England Club, dating back to 2018.

Sinner will take comfort in the fact, however, that he pushed Djokovic to the limit in their last encounter on Centre Court.

He came close to recording a major shock last year, taking a two-set lead over the former world No. 1 before losing in five.

For Sinner to record the win of his life, he will need to continue his highly-efficient play. He blasted 36 winners and committed just 20 unforced errors in his win against Safiullin.
